Why choose live extraction?

Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem. We always carry out live removal and rehoming rather than extermination — working alongside local beekeeping societies to give colonies a new home.

If bees have taken up residence in your chimney, roof void, wall cavity or garden, we can assess the situation, identify the species, and carry out a safe extraction with minimal disruption to your property.

🐝

Honey Bees

Most commonly require extraction when swarming or nesting in structures. We rehome colonies with local beekeepers.

🌸

Bumblebees

Generally harmless and will vacate naturally at the end of the season. We advise on risk management and expected timeline.

🧱

Solitary Bees

Rarely need intervention. Management is usually environmental — such as repointing brickwork to remove nesting sites.

Is it a swarm or a nest?

One of the most common questions we get is whether a cluster of bees is a swarm or an established nest. The distinction matters — it affects the urgency, the method of removal, and whether the bees will simply move on by themselves.

Temporary

Bee Swarm

  • A swarm is a colony in transit — a queen and thousands of workers that have left their original hive to find a new home
  • They will cluster on a surface — a branch, wall or fence post — for a few hours to a few days while scouts locate a new site
  • Swarms are generally docile and pose little risk
  • In many cases a swarm will move on without intervention
  • If located in an inconvenient spot, we can collect and rehome the swarm quickly and safely
Permanent

Bee Nest

  • A nest is an established colony that has moved into a structure — chimney, roof void, wall cavity — and begun building comb
  • Nests will not move on by themselves and will grow significantly over the season
  • Honeycomb left inside a building can cause structural damage, damp and attract secondary pests
  • Established nests require full extraction, sterilisation and proofing to resolve properly
  • Early intervention is always recommended to prevent comb from becoming deeply embedded

How the extraction process works

1

Survey

We assess the ingress location, inspect the fabric and structure of the building, and determine the safest methods of extraction.

2

Access & Extraction

We safely access the nest — including in chimneys, soffits and wall cavities — and extract the colony along with all honeycomb.

3

Sterilisation

Once the colony and all honeycomb are removed, we sterilise the void and reinstate the building fabric to prevent residual material attracting secondary pests.

4

Rehoming

The colony is transferred to a local beekeeper or beekeeping society for relocation.

5

Proofing

Entry points are sealed to prevent re-infestation. We advise on any broader building needs noted during extraction.
