A blocked drain is unpleasant and can quickly become a bigger problem, with flooding, smells and damage to the property. Call us and we will clear it. If it has happened before, we will find out why.
What we unblock
- Outside drains and gullies
- Manholes and inspection chambers
- Blocked toilets
- Sinks, baths and showers
- Soil and waste pipes
- Commercial kitchen drains
Common causes of blocked drains
- Fat, oil and grease poured down the sink, which sets hard inside the pipe
- Wet wipes, sanitary products and kitchen roll, which do not break down like toilet paper
- Tree roots getting in through cracks and joints
- Silt and debris washed into outside drains and gullies
- Damaged pipes, such as cracked, displaced or collapsed sections
How we clear blocked drains
Most blockages can be cleared with drain rods or high-pressure water jetting, which scours the inside of the pipe and clears fat, silt and debris rather than just pushing through it. For blockages that jetting alone will not shift, such as tree roots, scale or hardened fat, we use Picote milling equipment to cut them out from inside the pipe. Where a drain keeps blocking, we use a CCTV camera to see the cause, such as roots or a damaged pipe, and tell you how to fix it for good.
Call us on 01775 720015. In the meantime, avoid running taps, flushing toilets or using the washing machine, as this sends more water into the blocked drain.
Keeping drains clear
- Only flush the three Ps: pee, poo and paper
- Let fat and oil cool, then bin it rather than pouring it down the sink
- Use sink strainers to catch food waste and hair
- Keep outside gullies clear of leaves and silt
Who is responsible for a blocked drain?
In England, you are generally responsible for drains that serve only your property and sit within its boundary. Pipes shared with neighbours, or beyond your boundary, are usually the responsibility of the water company, which across our area is mainly Anglian Water. If we find the blockage is in a public sewer, we will tell you so you can report it to them.
