About silverfish
Silverfish are small, wingless insects with a silvery, carrot-shaped body and three long tail bristles. They are active at night and dart away when disturbed. They feed on starchy materials such as paper, wallpaper paste, book bindings and food crumbs.
Silverfish do not bite or spread disease, but they are a nuisance and a sign of high humidity.
Signs of silverfish
- Silvery insects darting away when you switch a light on
- Small irregular holes or yellow marks on paper, books and wallpaper
- Most often seen in bathrooms, kitchens and under sinks
How we deal with silverfish
Improving ventilation and reducing moisture in bathrooms, kitchens and lofts makes a big difference, and we will point out what is keeping the area damp. For persistent problems we treat the cracks and voids where they are hiding.
