Woodlice

Woodlice are harmless, but lots of them indoors usually means damp. We help you find the cause and keep them out.

About woodlice

Woodlice are one of the few land-living crustaceans. They have grey, oval, segmented bodies about 10 to 15mm long with 14 legs. They feed on rotting wood and plant matter, live under stones, logs and pots, and wander indoors into damp, dark corners.

Woodlice do not bite, spread disease or damage the building. They dry out quickly indoors, so if you are seeing a lot of them, there is usually somewhere damp nearby keeping them alive.

How we deal with woodlice

The best long-term fix is to reduce moisture, clear debris and plant pots away from walls, and seal gaps around doors and airbricks. We will point out where they are getting in and what is drawing them, and where they keep coming in, we can apply a barrier treatment.
